// live clipper
Live Clipper is a standalone way to use ClipNoir, no VODs needed. Hotkey a moment while you're live. ClipNoir saves the last 30–120 s to your disk right away, uploads only that clip, and drops a captioned vertical Short (your layout, caption style and font) next to the raw file. Free plan: 30 clips/month, watermarked. The standalone Clipper plan ($7/mo) gives 300 clips with no watermark. Prefer whole streams? VOD Clipping. See all plans. Paid checkout isn't open yet.
An OBS plugin: after installing, ClipNoir shows up in OBS's Docks menu and its plugin list. Needs OBS 31.1 or newer on Windows 10/11. Nothing else to install: no Python, no scripts. The Mac build is still the older tray app for now (Apple Silicon).
// 3 steps
- Install. Run
ClipNoir-Setup.exe, then restart OBS if it was open. - Connect. In OBS open Docks → ClipNoir and click Connect account. Your browser opens with everything filled in. Sign in with Twitch or X and click Connect ClipNoir Desktop. No code to type.
- Clip. Hit the big Clip that button, or bind ClipNoir: Clip that under Settings → Hotkeys. ClipNoir turns on the Replay Buffer (120 s) for you. The vertical Short lands in
Videos/ClipNoir/formattedabout 1–3 min later and shows up in the dock's recent clips.
Windows says "Windows protected your PC"? The installer isn't code-signed yet. Click More info → Run anyway. It asks for admin rights because OBS plugins live in C:\ProgramData\obs-studio\plugins.
// Meld Studio
Meld has no plugin system. Its only embeddable panel is the single custom chat dock, so ClipNoir works like this:
- In the installer, tick Also install the ClipNoir helper for Meld Studio. It runs in the tray, connects to your account and uploads new Meld clips.
- In Meld: Settings → Advanced → WebSocket Server: on. Set your clip folder in the ClipNoir tray menu → Settings.
- Optional dock: File → Preferences → User Interface → Use Custom Chat Dock, URL
https://clipnoir.xerithdarkmind.com/dock?app=meld. Note that this replaces Meld's chat panel.
Advanced: manual OBS script / Meld helper (Python)
// OBS Studio (Windows / macOS / Linux)
- Install Python 3.11 or 3.12 (python.org). In OBS: Tools → Scripts → Python Settings, set the Python install path.
- Unzip anywhere permanent. In Tools → Scripts, click + and pick
clipnoir_obs.py(keepclipnoir_client.pybeside it). - Turn on the Replay Buffer: Settings → Output → Replay Buffer → Enable, and set Maximum Replay Time to at least your clip length (for example 120 s). Click Start Replay Buffer in Controls.
- In the script panel, click Link ClipNoir account. Your browser opens /device with the code filled in. Sign in with Twitch or X, then Link device.
- Settings → Hotkeys → ClipNoir: Clip that: bind a key.
- Press it. The raw clip lands in
<save folder>/ClipNoir/raw/right away. The vertical version arrives inClipNoir/formatted/about 1–3 min later.
ffmpeg is optional. With it, the script trims to your exact length and shrinks clips over 95 MB. Without it, the whole buffer is uploaded and the server uses the last N seconds.
// Hotkey, Stream Deck & bots
Set the hotkey right in the dock: Set hotkey captures a key combo (suggested: Ctrl+Shift+C, and the dock warns if another OBS hotkey already uses it). It also appears in OBS Settings → Hotkeys as ClipNoir: Clip that.
- Elgato Stream Deck: add the OBS Studio plugin's Hotkey action and choose ClipNoir: Clip that (or bind the key to the same combo).
- Streamer.bot / Touch Portal / anything that speaks obs-websocket v5: send
CallVendorRequestwith{"vendorName":"ClipNoir","requestType":"ClipThat"}.GetStatusreturns the version, hotkey and whether the Replay Buffer is running.
// Meld Studio
- In Meld: Settings → Advanced → WebSocket Server → enable (default port 13376). Note your clip folder.
- Install Python 3.10+, then
pip install -r requirements.txtin the unzipped folder. python clipnoir_meld.py --linkand approve the code at /device.python clipnoir_meld.py --clips-dir "<Meld clip folder>" --hotkey "<ctrl>+<alt>+c". The hotkey triggers Meld's Record Clip. Clips saved by Meld's own hotkey are picked up too.
// privacy
Only the clip you trigger is uploaded. The raw upload is deleted after processing, and formatted clips expire after 14 days. Revoke a device any time at /device.
